Songwriter releases disc of originals
Local singer-songwriter Patrick Kratzer recently released his first compact disc, a four-track extended play titled "Out of Place."
Professionally recorded at Wingbourne Studios in Rye, "Out of Place" features four original alternative pop/rock numbers, with Kratzer handling vocals, guitar and drums. The bass parts were played by local virtuoso Lyman Bushkovski.
Kratzer, who has been writing songs since he was 13, can rightfully be called a professional. The quality of the songs - arrangement, playing and presentation - is first-rate, giving little indication that the creator is but 19 years old with no formal training except a few guitar lessons.
The four cuts - “(I'll Give You) Everything," "Losing Me," "She Got Everything" and "Out of Place” - are melodic, guitar-driven nuggets with exemplary vocal work and interesting structure: mainstream enough for the radio but eclectic enough not to be middle of the road.
Kratzer began performing locally a year ago, at the Pueblo Songwriters and Musicians Association's open-microphone nights. He since has performed at various venues, including the Colorado State Fair and the Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival. Tonight, Kratzer will perform as part of a St. Jude's Children Hospital benefit at the Silver Saddle.
Registered with the BMI society of artists and composers, Kratzer will soon start recording a full-length compact disc of his original music.
Produced by Kratzer and Berriene Martin, "Out of Place" is available at Pueblo Records and Tapes for $8. For more information, visit www.kratzermusic.com or call 545-4143.
